engine oil appears to be gear lube?

Me and my Dad have purchased four dodges two from one dealer and two from another. the two from the second dealer had engine oil that looked and smelled like gear lube. but the others and some of our friends had normal looking oil and smelled like normal oil. what gives is this engine breakin oil . or just another dealer trick.

Might be Rotela kind of smells like gear oil .

If it were me I would call the dealer service dept and ask them what kind of oil and what weight oil it is.

I agree with redram3, Rotella T has a different oder than other oils.

Thanks fellas sounds like i wont be buying any Rotella. i hate the smell of gearlube. due to a bad experiance

It's normal. even the stuff that came in my 93 when it was new stank like gear lube.
