I am looking for the part # stamped on your oil dipstick for a 1997 2500 4x4 5 spd. I broke mine about a month ago and have misplaced it. I purchased one from the dealer but not sure that it is the correct one.

Thanks,

Ron

According to the online Cummins Quickserve for my '96 (should be the same as your '97) the Cummins part # for the dipstick is 3928740. Might be cheaper than the dealer too.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't know about that site. I entered my engine number and the dipstick # that they show is the same as yours, 3928740. Can you check to see if that is the number that is actually stamped on your dipstick when you get the time? It is different than what is on the new one that I just bought. So I'm just as confused as before. I'm hoping that a few 97 owners will check their dipstick & come up with the same number.

The 97 is a different p/n from the 94-96 because it has "yellow" wording on it as opposed to white. Yellow indicates a "service point " Shadrach

I tryed a Cummins dealer and Mopar dealer and both said the dipstick had to be bought with the tube as well. It wasnt cheap... ... . Needless to say Im borrowing one from a friends spare engine.

Still confused. The part number from Cummins for Woodenhead's 1996 dipstick is:3928740. The part number from Cummins for my 1997 is the same: 3928740. The part # that HLEschenko has on his 1997 dipstick is 3923128, same as the one that I just picked up from the dealer. It has the yellow wording on it. So why the different #'s for the same year???

With the new dipstick # 3923128 after a complete oil & filter change with 11qts. it is reading about 1/2 qt. low. If more people reply and have the 3928740 dipstick I may see if the dealer can get that one, otherwise I guess I'm all set.

Timebomb, the dipstick without the tube lists for $52. 85. Dodge part # is 4883345 for the 3923128 stick or Dodge part # 4796874 for the 3928740 stick whichever is right?????
