Just wanted advice on the best oils to use in my 95 ram diesel. I'm going shopping at a chain auto parts retailer in my area ( pep boys, auto zone, etc). Can anyone give me some advice??

Not to take anything from delo (great oil), but I like to use Shell Rotella T 15W40, you can get it fairly cheaply in gallon jugs from WalMart. The main thing to do is to get oil that is rated for Diesel engine usage. Proper oil filters are also important, I get Fleetguards also, but since I don't have a place near by that I can get them, i just order them from www.genosgarage.com , what ever you do, don't get them from the dealer, the up the price way too much for my tastes.

Just to muddy the waters a little more, I have been using Cummins Premium Blue in my 94 since the truck was new. It is formulated to their specs by Valvoline.

If I get to the point I can't get it easily, I'll probably switch to Delo 400 and buy it from Costco.

I doubt if there is much difference between any of the name brand oils as long as they meet Diesel requirements.

When I bought the truck, the dealer promised free oil changes as long as I owned the truck.

I asked what oil they used and was told they use Quaker State 30 weight.

I declined.

I gotta stick my two cents in here.

Pep Boys Proline Universal 15W40 Motor oil has the EXACT Cummins spec for the twelve valve engine. Read the label. I wrote Cummins with the info on the label and they wrote back it was THE correct specification. Less expensive than the name brands but equal in quality.

I've been using it since I got the truck 90,000 miles ago.

but nothing smells as good as

ROTELLA!Oo.

Most oils are damned good. Watch the filters and change it regular, and don't shut down with a red hot turbo.
