I will be performing an overhaul on my 1995 5. 9 Cummins in the next few weeks.

I am looking for advice or suggestions as to what to do while I have my engine apart. I am looking for after market parts and the different modifications that may be performed to the engine and injection pump or anything else.

I am doing an overhaul due to poor air filtration. I would like some help in regards to enhancing the performance of my vehicle once the overhaul is completed. I also need any help in regards to part numbers on the marine pistons.

I am also looking for someone who has specifications or suggestions on porting and polishing the head.

Les:

Welcome to the TDR Website!

Like you, I would like to hear from
some of the members on this subject
too. I know members like "Piers", "My 6
Eats V8's", "DieselB59", "HVAC", "Joe
Donnelly" and a few others can definitely
"cast some light" on this.

I am not there yet, but when I get
ready to do the "overhaul" here are
some things I am going to look into/
consider:

370 Diamond B Marine Engine:
Crankshaft, Connecting Rods, Ceramic
Coated Pistons

Better designed exhaust manifold,
possibly an "ATS".

You didn't say if you were looking
to "enhance performance" so I won't
go into alot of that.

Anyway, we will see what the other
members suggest.

Good luck on the rebuild!

Why are you going through the engine? I'm just curious. I had to rebuild a '93 cummins that was ran without an air filter for a few months. At the time I couldn't find many hi-performance parts, but I didn't look extremely hard either. If I had to go into my engine right now, I would port the head for EGT reduction and install a thicker head gasket to lower the compression. I believe this is only necessary for the extreme horsepower people. Hopefully, more people will chime in with tips for you.
