Engine overheats while towing uphill, I don't hear my fan come on. Is there a test I could run to determine whether my fan is working correctly or not?

2002 Ram 2500 automatic transmission. Some extra goodies.

Carl I would check my thermostat first to make sure it opens and closes at the right temp and get that out of the way. Second , I would pull my radiator and make sure the fins are not clogged inside the shrouded area where the fan pulls air through. Mine looked pretty good from the outside but was so plugged up it couldn't flow air.

Unless you extended or relocated your crankcase vent hose your radiator is probably pretty caked up with dirt and grime. Mine was pretty bad by 100,000 miles and I pulled & cleaned it like ESwartzer suggested.
