Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Boost gauge, how to read

Sometimes when starting from a dead stop the speedometer reads abt 50 mph, temp abt 600 degs, abt 3 # boost--you can do all you want to the accelerator prdal nothing--soon it will work out and you can go as usual. 2002 2500, ho engine, 6 spd transmission. limited slip rear, BD exh brake--lots of pwr when not in this mode--also no check engine lites--any one had any trouble such as this. Took to a dealer in Florida and since no lites he said he knew no way to help. Thanks Art miller

Welcome to the TDR Art, or at least your first post anyway.

How 'bout putting your truck specs in your sig via the "user control panel" link, so you don't have to list them ever time.

I'm guessing you have a boost and egt gage, the 600 deg is your egt, is that post or pre turbo. You say the speedo reads 50 mph, are you going 50 or more like 5 mph? Without those two indications, I would say that your exh brake is sticking closed. But the 50 mph thing sounds fishy.

Read the codes, and post them. Someone will be able to tell you what they mean. In case you don't know how, cycle your ignition key on and off three times (without starting it), on the third time leave it on and the codes will show up where the odometer usually reads out. Have a pen handy and write them down.

Edit- I just realized you said the CEL didn't come on. Well check the codes anyway see if there are any in there.

Stay away from that dealer if the idiots don't know that you don't have to have a check engine light to have trouble codes.

As has been said, check them yourself in the odometer.

My speedo jumped around alot when my Crankshaft Position Sensor went out. The Temp gauge also was eractic when the Speedo was doing the windshield wiper thing. It also settled out after a few minutes.

I checked the codes as suggested and they are as listed P PCU, P 1693, P DONE, P ECU, P 0216-- It done the same thing twice today and would not let me get above abt 30 mph--with in abt a mile it came into it and dwn the road we go as normal. Any and all help will be appreciated. Thank You. Art

From the P-code list:

P0216 (M) Fuel Injection Pump Timing Failure High fuel supply restriction, low fuel pressure or possible

wrong or incorrectly installed pump keyway.

You can ignore the 1693 code - it only alerts you there is a trouble code set.

Good luck...

Don't know of anyone, including me who survived the 0216 code without a new VP44. You've got the classic symptoms. I sure wouldn't let the dealer you already went to touch my truck.
