Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Transmission problem

This problem has been driving me nuts and the dealer does not know what it is. My 02 (57,000 miles) will run fine until I cruise the interstate for about an hr. at 65mph+ and then it will "cut out"-the engine just quits-until I slow down and then it runs fine at a slower speed. Once it starts doing this it will continue every time I try to run faster until I stop and shut down for awhile. It takes about an hour of running to cause this problem. No problems around town or short trips-20 miles or so. A new lift pump was installed but no difference. One other thing- the engine makes a "surging sound"-sort of a "flash" in a rhythmic sequence, the engine gets louder in short bursts with no discernible change in RPM. The dealer thinks it could be a "speed sensor". Anyone have similiar problems?

Cycle the key three times leaving it on the third time (do not start) and write down any code displayed on the Odometer. SNOKING

Check the connection to the sensor on top of the rear diff. for the 500. 216 is NOT good. Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? SNOKING

Fuel pressure gauge is still in box on bench. New lift pump was installed about a month ago. I'll check the wires on the sensor-did not know where it was. Could the 0500 be set by wheel spin while plowing snow for 32hrs. ? Would the speed sensor also set the 0216 code? I have a feeling something is seriously wrong.

I have heard people say the 500 can be caused by wheel spin. 216 is a dieing VP44. seem like a lot of 02 are having that problem. SNOKING
