I was returning from a 4 hr. trip yesterday and 5 miles from home the engine in my 2001 2500 6 speed HO started missing no power and quit. The engine light came on ( picture of little engine ) I drained the fuel and it did start and ran normal the rest of the way home. I had just installed a new fuel filter before the trip. Has this ever happen to anyone? Don't know what to do next. Thanks for any help on this subject.

Get it checked for codes. You can do this by turning the ignition on,off,on,off,on and do not start.

If you have a p0216, p1688, or p1689, you will be purchasing a new VP44 in the near future.

Let us know what you see.

P. S. Welcome to the TDR

The man I bought my truck from told me that the same thing happened to him about a year ago with around 40K on it. It just died and wouldn't start again. After having it towed he figured out that the main engine fuse blew. It is the 50A fuse in the power center under the hood labled, engine ignition. You might try looking at that first. I carry an extra but never have had the problem and he never did find out why it blew. Good luck!
