I know nothing about EZ boxes or the effect they have on an engine but the light rattle at highway speeds is often caused by a failing FCA in an unmolested engine.

Mine sounded like the rattle of a high compression gas powered V8 with the ignition timing advanced or using mediocre gasoline.

Does not sound good, I am thinking an exhaust valve seat. Can you get access to an infrared thermometer, see if the exhaust ports on the manifold are even in temperature while running.

Pull the belt off and spin the fan support pulley. If there is any noise, you found it. I was sure the turbo was gone or I had a bad injector until I figured out that the fan support bearing being bad will make noise EXACTLY like that.

Check you tensioner pulley and idler pulley both. I have replaced all 3 in about the same mileage.
