well i just got this 99 truck and the temp didnt run up to 190 like my 96. So i thought it was running cold. The guage was between the 190 and the line to the left. Closer to the left. I put in the updated 180 degree thermostat. Same thing. I race R/C cars that burn nitro and you have to use an infrared heat gun to adjust the engines. I thought hey, lets IR the engine right at the coolant sensor and see what we get... Guess what. I got 178 degres. I think that maybe alot of us are right on the temp but are confused with the guage not being to "scale" Make sense?? Ime calling mine a done deal. Now on to somthing else..... RRR

nitro rc

Hey rraulston what kind of nirto rc are you racing. Ive got a T-Maxx and a Nitro 4tec pro, just play though, dont race yet.

Hey, my truck runs cool too,, but that's just the way I like it.

In the Summer my truck only runs about 70-90* hotter than outside temps (100*+ in summer time here)

And this R/C car stuff,, What are the temps you are seeing on those,, I've tried using our IR heat gun, but don't really know the target temps,, so I just run them hard for a 100' pass away, and a 100' pass back and I listen to the motor and run them lean enough for some serious power, and rich enough so the motor doesn't get too hot and bog down. Trial and error.

mcummings, As of yet i have only been running the traxxas motors (that is about to change) any way, traxxas runs hot, and they told me not to be afraid of up to 310 degrees measured right down at the glow plug. Most other engines i believe dont like to see more than 250-260 degrees for best life. I have also found, that the best way for me to tune is to just listen to the motor and get a "feel" for it. No missing or cutting out at high end (lean) and no bogging off the line or if you let it idle for a while (rich) I find i tune mine each time i run it and sometimes throughout a session. the temp and humidity have a huge effect on these little nitro motors. Also, i dont think the traxxas motors (or should i say carbs) are good at holding tune. I am going to put an O. S. . 21 in the t-maxx and a novarossi in the 4-tec pro. later, Phil

i also have a tmaxx with a . 21 bigblock upgrade. I run it at about 260 degrees. It roosts!!! And for the road i have a serpent impulse streetspec. with a mugen mt-12 engine. i think 300 is a little hot but all engines differ. I run trinity 20% fuel. Airtronics M-8 transmitter ect... ect... . Run the car hard for 5 min IR it adj it run hard IR it and keep 250-275 and i thing you are there. RRR

rraulston, did you do the bigblock conversion on the stock chassis or did you go with one of the aftermarket lengthened units. im thinking of doing the stock modified chassis number

Yeah i thought 300 on the engine was hot too, but i couldn't get it to run well at all much cooler than, the traxxas rep told me that theirs just run hot. Well im running away if you know what i mean. time to play with the big dogs

Ive been runnign JR radios, and odonell 20% fuel
