Has anybody installed a surface mounted TC on the center housing rotating group - between the compressor hsg & turbine hsg - to record metal temps? this would be the hot ticket (no pun intended

) for the shut down module.
When I worked at Garrett Turbos the techs had to wait at least 30 mins before they could remove a turbo from the test stand - the turbo - wheels, turbine housing, center housing/bearings - is a HUGE thermal mass (relative to the TC) and takes quite a long time to cool down enough for handling - even with welding gloves.
If I remember correctly, the time constant of type K TC is less than 1 second.
