O Ye Of Great Knowledge and Experience:
I noticed a slight lope when starting out on a trip earlier today. When I returned, I threw it in neutral and raised the idle to cool the turbo (I always let it idle but thought I'd see if it helped as I was in a hurry) At about 1100 RPM, it feels like gas motor (remember those?) with a plug wire off. It goes away at higher RPM and isn't noticeable at idle. I am going to try to determine the cause tonight and won't be able to check the board until tomorrow. For what it's worth, the engine is all stock except for the #5 TST plate(stock position) and an Amsoil air filter.
I'll check the fuel supply (leaky, kinked lines) then the strainer and change the filter if I have one laying around.
Anybody have this (or similar) problem?
PS: It didn't come with a cat so it's not plugged #ad
(early '94).

Extreme,

Its normal. Its called a "stumble" or "flat' spot. Very common on the 94 & 95 trucks. Mine does it to.

See page 2 of "175 HP Ram roars" thread for more info.

Yep, I've got it too. Mine was severly magnified when I added the 370 horse injectors. I have heard of a cure from larger delivery valves coupled with a governor spring kit for our trucks. I'm getting the gov spring kit in three weeks. We'll see.

Mine also does it. It has become more pronounced since the trans was modified to BD parts. How do we fix this and what will it cost?I want larger injectors but am willing to spend a little more to stop the stumble if it is an easy fix. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Blackcloud,

It seems like a governer spring kit or a couple of clicks on the OE spring will cure it. Alot cheaper than delivery valves.

I think the install is kind of tough for the first timer.

Joe D & Piers know more about it.

Same here. Has not gotten any better or worse.

Just completed the install of my 370 injectors and AFC spring kit. My truck with the Dunrite low stall converter HAD the flat spot from a dead stop. Not anymore! The 370s made all the difference in the world. Now, even from a dead stop up a hill, it just takes off. I tried to get that stumble some were talking about at around 1100-1200 rpm, but puttering around the neighborhood and acelerating repeatly never produced that stumble. I got the injectors from Joe D. and he told me that the 180 hp pump will work just fine, and he was right. I have the star wheel turned all the way (toward the engine) and it smokes quite a bit more than the stock injectors IF a go WOT real quick instead of rolling on the trottle. I will probably play with the star wheel adjustment tomorrow. Not bad at all if you roll the trottle. EGT does get higher quicker, but the power is immediate thru out the rpm range. For guys who are thinking about it, injectors are a good mod for all around power, low to high rpm. I think I need a HX40 now.
