This is my first Cummins so I don't know if this is common or not. When I turn the key off the engine will shake for a second or two. Is this normal ? I had a 96 GMC diesel and it didn't shake when turned off, in fact it didn't do much of anything. Love the 03 HO.

Yes its normal

My old 1997 does it all the time ... just the rotation of the engine and common for inline engins like ours, don't worry about it.

Next time your in for service you could ask the machanic to check the engine mounts if you want.

The high combustion causes the engine to stop abruptly, which I would guess causes the shake you describe. Have you noticed the squeek every time you shut it down? That's the engine stopping before the fan belt has time to catch up. .

takes awhile for the massive rotating assembly to stop. by the way, the cummins dont like to be turned off. this is a sure sign of it. ;) got to love the inline

The 03 has the "Gator" style belt - sew sori - no squeakie. Even the replacement for the vac pump is "Gator" styled. Miss the squeakie, not sure if its shut off or not :D

SOTSU!!

my buddies 03 has the squeakie hes got the gator back also. i think he got some oil or s/m on it? i told him to get the dealer to put new belt on it. should slove the problem

On my new 03 there was an information card inserted in the glovebox which described the squeek as normal -meaning: "we can't figure out how to stop it from squeeking without installing a much more costly belt, so the squeek is now considered normal. This little information card should eliminate any further questions on the matter... "

I actually enjoy the look on the faces of passengers when I shut it down      As if there is something veeeeery mysterious going on under the hood -which obviously there is :D
