It started doing this again today, I have seen this happen a couple of times before. When I first start it up, i get noticable black smoke out of the tail pipe. I rev the engine it starts shaking and belching bluish white smoke and then clears up until I rev it up again. I take it for a drive and it seems ok, I kick it in the rear and I see the black smoke in the mirror. The black smoke doesn't really concern me as much as the shaking engine and bluish white smoke. Injector? Pump? Any clues? 89,000 miles and no oil consumption. I change the oil every 3,000-4500 and the fuel filter every 6,000-7500. Its not do for either one yet. Thanx in advance.

Acting Nasty

Gary -

Sounds like you are loosing fuel pressure after you shut down, and get some air in the fuel line.

Could be any number of things, you'll have to check complete system as it could be anything from a loose fitting to a crack in the fule filter housing, and yes it could be the injector pump going south.

Good luck -

Denny

well I wanted the injector pump to die before the warranty goes out, I just hope they can get it fixed before October. I know it was a 2 week thing on the lift pump going through all of Cummins red tape.

When my injector pump went out it would spew all kinds of blue/white/grey smoke when it acted up. Could fog out the freeway behind me. So it is possible it is your pump. Mine only did it while driving in certain conditions never at startup but seems different people have different symptons when their pump goes south. Have you checked for codes? Mine would set codes but never did set the mil light off.

The last lift pump that went on me( 3 lifts, and 2 push) caused white smoke and ruff running. If Iwas you call piers and order a F. A. S. S. Great produc
