New Dodge Truck Owner

Finally got my rig!! :D

Hello all, I've had my truck for all of 3 days, so I'm not sure if this is normal:

The engine shudders pretty good at shut down, shaking the truck a bit. I'm guessing this is normal, although I've never had this happen with a gas engine.

Thanks.

It's normal. Don't get in the habit of shutting the truck off with the doors open. The welds on the hinges/fender area will not hold up.

If it seems like it might shake a body panel or 2 loose on shutdown, then everything is as it should be!

The reason it does this is the extreme compression, and probably the nature of an inline engine (I suspect a V-configuration would shake a little less on shutdown).

Sometimes it chirps the belt because the engine stops so quick that the alternator pully slips and makes a squeak.

Alright, you guys are great. Love the comments. I just thought of this, but the truck is my 2nd turbocharged inline 6 cylinder. (have a Toyota Supra, 850 hp :) )

At least once a week someone will ask me if I know my truck makes a "funny noise" when I shut it off. It seems obvious that few people (present company excepted, of course) know anything at all about "those noisy smelly diesels".

The Shakes....

Your YOTA will never shake like that:D

You should see the way my work truck shakes when all 12-plus liters of Cummins ISM power comes to a stop. Enough to noticeably rattle a 48 foot long, 80,000Lb rig. Gotta love that big sixer.....

George;)

Proud owner of a 2004 1 Ton 6 Spd. and it shudders on shut down, question answered, normal. My power stroke just died, no fight at all. Oil change, this was a major job, I ended up pulling my wheel well cover out and it was still tough, some one give me a new route.

Translating abbreviated speak... I presume you are wanting some guidance on changing the oil on the 04's, namely the oil filter?
