My turck is in the body shop for repairs. The shop called to say that they started the truck pulled it around back and it shut off not they shut it off it shut off on its own. Now they cannot start it. They checked all fuses, and lift pump. The truck had been sitting outside for three days in 10 to 20 degree weather. They towed the truck inside plugged it in and let it sit overnight. In the morning they tried to start it again to no avail. I did the trick with the ingnition and trip tick switch and got the code that says there is a code p1693. They do not have a diagnostic computer to pull up anymore codes. Anyone have any ideas on what to try or what maybe the problem before they tow it to my Dodge dealers shop? Thanks. :(

check to see if the fuel shut off solenoid is working or not. i had too clean up the electrical connections on mine as it couldn't pull enough current through to activate the solenoid a while ago.

Could be the Throttle Position Sensor, also. Does it turn over? If it doesn't, check the starter solenoid fuse under the hood, it got me yesterday. If it turns over, check that you have enough fuel... . the sending unit in these trucks are notorious for failing and showing an 1/8th or a 1/4 tank when it is actually empty. Otherwise, it might be the TPS (around $400, dealer only... . I've replaced 2 and it gave the same symptons, truck just quit) or the fuel injection pump... which would really suck (replaced one of them also). Good luck.

Yes it turns over and sound like it is on the verg of starting. I wanna keep cranking it cause I it almost start but I stop cause that cant be a good thing to keep cranking it. Its got a full tank of fuel, i filled it up before I dropped it off.

please let me know what this is. Same thing happened to me on the way home Friday. but mine drove 15 miles before it died. same code p1693. I could get fuel out of #4 & 5, but dribbled out on 1 and 3. Plugged a Cummins computer into it and it said the ECM is dead. Full tank.

Check the wiring in the steering wheel column at the back to the switchs. One broke or cracked wire creates alot of havoc. Been there and done that ;)

code1693

code 1693 is the death code for a VP44 pump. I hope its still under waranty. If not call Rip toll free 1-866-211-1533 for best price on VP44. Good luck!!!

Thanks

I'll check the wires after I get home, and if it is the VP44, well a warranty would be nice. Someone has already voided it before I got the truck, didn't know that until yesterday. :( But I might have an in on getting one, Cummins is 20 minutes down the road if I could drive. But that's a darn long walk. Thanks

1693 is a generic code. I got one when I forgot to plug the MAP sensor back in along with the code for the sensor.

0216 is the code you don't want to see. Injection pump timing.

Problem Solved :)

1. The code per my buddy who works at the dealership who happens to be the manager, said that the code just tell's you that there is a error code in the ECM. Kind of like a code to tell you there is a code.

2. In my original post I stated that it was below freezing temps here. Not common for my area but does happen for a day or two at a time. Anyway the fuel gelled. When the body shop started it and drove around back it sucked the fuel out of the line but could not get any from the tank obviously causing the truck to stop. Also there is now air in the fuel line.

3. Solution - Dealer checked codes and there is code for AIR in the Line, Dealer reprimed system, put some anti gel additive in the tank and Im on my way again.

Moral of the story put anti gel in the tank during the winter months, cause you never know. On a side note my dealer friend said that week they were just inundated with dodge diesel that had there fuel gelled they got in 7 the day I came in. Like I said these temps are not common for our area 20 and below degrees for two weeks now ugh... .

Thanks for all the advice :D
