Engine shutdown

Help! My 99 2500 (111k) will shut down while in cruise control mode. after shutting off cruise it takes about 5-10 seconds and begins running again without touching starter. (By the way I just pulled starter and replaced copper cellunoid contacts for five bucks. The hot side contact was worn paper thin. It will give you plenty of warning such as dead clicks and then a fire up slowly getting worse. } I am now scared to use my cruise control. Any help or Ideas would be appreciated.
