My engine shuts off when at low rpm or when idleing at a light. I am getting the P0236 code but no others. I have 14psi of fuel pressure, a clean filter and a VP44 with 40-50K miles on it. Cleaning the MAP sensor see to reduce the shut offs but have not stopped completely. The diesel shop here says a bad MAP should not shut the engine off. My truck is an 01 with an auto trans. I will fill in my profile soon. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I agree that a faulty the MAP sensor signal shouldn't cause the engine to shut off by itself.

Questions:

Does it do this every time you stop at a light?

Does it happen immediately when the engine drops to idle?

Did this problem begin suddenly or come on gradually?

Are you continuosly monitoring the fuel pressure at the VP44 inlet? If yes, does it change at all prior to the engine shutting off?

Is the engine ever hard to start?

Regards,

John L.
