I was coming out of Corpus and heading up the high bridge running about 65 in the left lane when the engine just goes away like someone flipped the switch off!! I immediately start jockeying for the right lane and trying to figure how the heck I'm gonna get the beast over the crest when the engine comes back on like gangbusters!!!! WHAT IS UP WITH THIS!!!!

I am open to any and all suggestions. (Lift pump maybe??? Would one act up like this??)

Thank you.

Don

The dead engine lasted maybe 20 to 30 seconds if that much before it came back up. I didn't even have time to clutch and go to neutral. And I don't think it completely shut down just lost all power.

With it running in the driveway, jiggle the wiring to the fuel injection pump. Could have a bad connection somewhere. Could even be just one wire in a connector causing trouble.

Crank position sensor or cam position sensor going bad could cause that also.

Since you didn't have have time to push the clutch pedal in, and go to netraul, the motor may have just pulled power back to an idle.

Might be a bad TSP (APPS), the 24V's default to idle when the TPS signal goes a little screwy. The situation usually only lasts 5 seconds before the powe comes back on, but if your TPS is really shot it could last longer.

Hope this helps,

Merrick Cummings Jr

EDIT,, Whoops, just saw you have a 12V,, maybe the shut down solenoid is going out.

You'd have to get an experianced member to help you with that.

Or do a search, this thread may help. https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=33480

Thanks for the replys. It will give me a place to start investigating.

Merrick, I should have stated in the posting that it was the 24 valve rig having the problem.

Thanks.

Don

Another thing to look at would be to see if any codes are coming up in the ODO display. A p0500 (Vehicle Speed Sensor) will do that I replaced mine and never had an issue scince. There could be many other things but first thing's first cycle that key and check codes. ;)
