Anybody know the correct spacing (air gap) between the "crank balancer" and the engine speed sensor?

It seems that at least a couple of us are having charging problems that may be related to improper spacing.

Thanks,

David

David the gap is 1. 25MM (. 049 IN. ) TO 1. 30MM (0. 51 IN. ).

The service manual states to use a non-magnetic feeler gauge.

Also check the auto shut down relay.

The engine speed sensor signal is a input for the auto shut down relay for control of the alternator field.

Well... . I pulled my fan and set the airgap on the sensor and nothing changed:mad:

I had already recharged the battery so that I could use the truck anyway (had to pick up something for my wife).

While sitting in the parking lot waiting for the store to open I had another opportunity to check things out under the hood.

I MADE A VERY IMPORTANT DISCOVERY!!!!!

The engine speed sensor is MUCH more effective when it's wiring harness is FULLY plugged in... . :--)

:D Needless to say, I am a very happy camper now that my AC works, my system is charging and my trans is shifting properly again.

Again, my TDR membership pays for itself many times over.

Thanks to C. E. Linker for putting me on the right trail.
