This is somewhat generic, but maybe there is a difference between engines. I have a six speed with a 4. 10 gear ratio. This leaves engine rpm's rather high on the highway. At 65mph it's just above 2000, which I figure isn't bad. But if I get to 75 it's more like 2400, which I try not to do for any extended period of time. Should I be concerned about leaving the truck in this rpm range? :confused:
 
Concerned? Not at all. These engines don't mind higher rpms and heavy loads, in fact your engine will thank you for the workout. These engines are designed to run hard and heavy for extended periods of time. :) :) :)

Won't hurt it at all. Off-road applications at full power, WOT isn't uncommon (probably the same for boats). Alot of 200HP+, self-propelled field sprayers use the 5. 9L Cummins. WOT most of the day, hydrostatic drives, weigh 20k+ (in some cases, even emtpy) loaded, going up and down big hills. No biggie.

Remember, this is a DIESEL! Todays gasers in the same trucks say they have the same and, in some cases higher horse power. That may be true, but run a 360 V8 on a dyno at "rated" HP/RPM (300+hp @ 5000 or so rpm) for very long and it will over heat or destroy itself in some manner.



Our lovely diesels are made to out put at maximum load for extended periods of time. Like the gen set at the fair that runs enclosed in a box for six days, nonstop.
