engine stall

2004 cummins 2500 the truck will run a shut off we replaced the fuel filter and it ran fin for a couple of miles and shut off. the canister for the filter was not full to top when we replaced it. i think this may be a lift pump problem but not sure? and if so will this cause injuction pump problem in the future?

Sounds like the classic lift pump issue. If your truck is a 2004 and you haven't had the lift pump retro-fit (moves it from the engine compartment to the fuel tank) then you are living on borrowed time for sure.



When mine failed I was driving along and it rattled a little more than usual and died. It started again right away but died when I put it in gear. I was lucky in that I was right around the corner from my dealer and I limped it in for the lift pump warranty work.



My bet is lift pump.

I just now am having pump issues with my 03. I ordered a pump from geno's for 180 plus shipping. Now all I am waiting for is pump to come in.

Just Had the same problem at 91000 miles. Towed it to the dealership today. Pretty sure it is the lift pump. Cant hear it run when I turn the key nor can I feel the pump working.

A failed lift pump generally won't do any harm to the injector pump, so don't worry about it.
