When I was leaving my home to do an errand I had to accelerate a little harder than normal. After entering the proper lane I removed my foot from the accelerator and the engine died. After several tries the engine restarted but would only run at idle speed. I was able to limp home and pull in the driveway but not enough power to get in the garage. (steep driveway). When I put the truck in park and removed my foot from the accelerator completely the engine was idling normal. Put the foot on the brake - shift lever to drive and the truck seemed to have plenty of power. I read in the TDR in early 2004 about what went on with the '04 trucks dying after hard acceleration and then removing the foot from the accelerator completely and the engine would stall. I can't seem to locate the article. I checked codes and come up with the dreaded P0628 - lift pump failure. I don't have a gauge to check the pump pressure but I do have a spare lift pump from Geno's Garage. The truck seems normal now but I would like to reread the earlier article or if some one could give me the answer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. James

I had my lift pump go in my 03 (I think 03-04. 5 are the same pump) and sounds like it. I ordered a frame mounted pump (instead of the factory replacement which installs it in the tank). Geno's has the original factory replacement that mounts to the filter housing. The frame mount is not too hard but if your looking for a simple replacement then I would go with the one from Geno's.
