Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Engine stalling after warmup

been having trouble with my 99 24 vlv. stalling after it has been warmed up , it will stall and die when putting in gear will do this for a couple of times and than straighten up?? Have changed fuel filter, but still stalling brought to dealer and they want to put in new pump?? runs to good other wise to go to this expense , it seems it has to be something simpler than a new pump??any idea's hburke
