On our current trip we were in Alaska and about to unhitch the 5'er. The wife usually backs the truck up enough to take the pressure off the pin while I pull the locking bar and she drives forward freeing the 5'er from the truck.

When she put the truck into drive the engine just quit. This happened about 5-6 times and then was okay.

I booked the truck into a 5* you-know-what. Here's the diagnosis. 1) I need a new fuel filter because there was water in the filter and 2) I need a reflash of the ECM. I said no thanks to both I can change my own filter and did not want a reflash due to the bad things I've heard on this BB.

I was able to speak with the mechanic and he told me that in Alaska the diesel fuel is poor quality with a lot of water in it. "They use water to push the diesel through". He also said the reflash would cure it. I said I didn't want to risk the reflash and left it at that.

The truck has been okay since.

Anyone run into this condition before.

Thanks,

Richard

Been there and done that. The reflash will help some trucks... its 18-15-00A. It solved my stalling problem when I had it. I know the TSB is for winter fuel but all the fuel here in AK is winter fuel. If you happend to buy diesel from somone who does not sell alot of it you could have picked up some bad stuff.

I know another member here in AK that has 100 gallons of #2 in his storage shed to use during the winter to make his own blend so the truck will not stall. He also found the only fuel station that has #2 all winter in a heated tank, too bad we have to drive 150 miles to get it... .

What dealer did you take it to and if it was in Anchorage was it Lithia or Anchorage Chrylser Dodge??

JR2 - It was in Fairbanks, can't remember the dealer's name offhand. I think it was you I contacted when I was there to get a dealer and recommendation. I guess you were at work when I called and I did not leave my name.

As there is only 1 dealer in Fairbanks I figured I didn't have much choice.

Thanks for your reply.
