Can the head studs be changed without taking off the head?

I'd like to do that before changing the turbo. Oo.

yes just remove one bolt at a time and replace it with a stud. look at this thread, doug aka jetpilot explains what to do to another person.

On a similar note if you install studs, then later need to remove the head, how do you do it? Do the studs screw out easily then you lift off the head? When installed do you run them down tight into the holes in the block or just finger tight? If any get stuck how do you get a grip on them to remove them?

ARP studs should be installed finger tight. I've always just double nutted them to get them out, but haven't done them on a CTD yet.
