My engine is the 5. 9L with a 6 speed manual. I am having problems with the engine stumbling. It feels like you hit a puddle of water. I have not noticed the RPMs dropping. The fuel filter has been changed three times since Oct 09. The first time it was really dirty. The lift pump has been changed also. All of this has been brought about from an accident from a tree that fell into the road on a curve. I ran over the top of the tree. I think this stirred up the sediment in the tank. Am I going to have to change the injectors? No codes have been generated.

Your filter should have caught anything stirred up and you changed that. Perhaps the filter screen in the tank? I am guessing here; do you have a fuel pressure gauge? This would show low fuel pressure if this is the problem. I have a hard time thinking it is the injectors.

The filters turn black as soon as diesel hits them. Bob is probably correct on the issues and what you should do. Check low pressure side them high pressure side. so you can start the process of elimination. Did you look under the truck for any frayed wiring looms ect. ?

This kind of describes the symptoms I felt for about 2 months - kind of a 'miss' - I noted the boost pressure would drop, but that's about it. This seemed to happen while cruising - no issues at idle, or hard acceleration. I tried using the cruise control, hoping it might be the throttle sensor - I continued to feel the stumble with the cruise on.

Not to jinx anything, but replacing the VP44 was my cure, after complete failure and a P1688 VP44 code.
