On my way to South Fork I traveled over La Veta Pass. As I approached the top of the pass I noticed the coolant was at 236 degrees, oil was 255 degrees and egt's topped 1500 degrees. This little engine likes to run hot, so far everything is still running as it should no ill effects. I didn't weigh everything but I am close to a thousand pounds of cargo on the truck. Fat fingered the title should be temperatures.

I don't recall now when I towed with the work ED but as I recall they were up there pretty high. My Hemi will run that hot towing quite often. Especially oil temp will get pretty high. Keep in mind the high fan probably does not come on until 220-225.

I tow a 7400-7800lb 24' enclosed trailer with my EcoD routinely. The temp gauge is smack dab middle at 224deg. Hottest I ever had it is 230deg which was a mid summer run at about 75-80mph for maybe 30min of mostly flat terrain pulling the trailer just to see how the truck would do under higher strain. My normal towing speed is 62-64mph. I'm told that the thermostat fully opens at 228deg. 236deg is pretty hot tho. I'd be inclined, at that temp, to back off the throttle a bit. IMO it's a great little engine, but 240hp still isn't a helova lot when you want to drive hard up a mountain pass. The EcoD is like driving a comfy sedan, all quiet and sure, and it gets a helova lot better mpg towing then any gas engine. But everything's a trade-off. Zooming up mountain passes with a heavy load will never be it's strong suit.
