Engine Temperature

Recently did my oil change and went back to Amsoil synthetic 5/30 (winter temps starting to go down) and noticed that the engine temperature is "normal" during cruise but drops way down when at idle (3-5 minutes). Really didn't notice it last year but hadn't really thought about it either.



Any thoughts? Does the lower viscosity lose that my temperature? Not too worried. Just curious and looking for feedback.

Normal

The cummins looses it ability to produce heat at idle and the possibility of cylinder washdown can start (Seperate issue). To maintain an allready warmed up banger you need to maintain a minimum of 1250 rpms to maintain 330* egt's. at idle my egt's read 260*

Exhaust brakes help out greatly at idle 510*
