One correction, the ISL is 8. 9L, basically a stroked out ISC. :D Worked on a few of those in the bigger motorhomes. 330HP, 1150 TQ. The ISM is 10. 8L, with ratings of up to 425HP, 1550 TQ. :D BOMB ON

I was wrong...

and you were right Evan. I just looked over at the Cummins site and the I. S. L. is completly different than the old L-10s. I don't think they even make the L-10 anymore, the M-11 took it's place. The I. S. M. looks like the older M-11's. Probably with electronics. I haven't worked at a real truck shop for over a year now so I'm not as up to date with the new stuff like I used to be. I work on bucket trucks and phords  now. 3126s and p. o. s. d. s. Thanks for setting me straight man;) . Doug

The ISM is a sweet engine. Smooth and VERY powerful. The really high-end motorhomes have them, along with many buses and trucks. If I am not mistaken, the newest buses here in Seattle are using ISL's and ISM's. I love riding the bus ever since they took delivery of the new Cummins-powered units. The old MAN horizontally-opposed diesels were venerable, but gutless. Plus, they lacked the sweet sound of a hummin Cummins!

MAN diesels

Hey Evan,I spent two years in Germany in a Pershing nuke unit. We used MAN trucks as wreckers and missle carriers. They had a V-10 MAN diesel in them. They did run good but they also lacked the sweet Cummins sound. I went to a factory sponsered school over there and when I got back everybody asked "so did they teach you how to be a MAN?" ;) . Oh yea MAN stands for Machinefabrique-Augsberg-Nurenberg(sp?)if you didn't already know that. Doug

The ISM, formerly the M-11 is a great engine. I prefer the M-11 because the mechanical version never gave us problems, but the basic engine is very good. We have spec'ed some trucks in the past with the 300HP M-11 and pulled 80,000 pounds with no problem.

We kept them about 500,000 miles then sold them. One still belongs to a hay farmer in Kansas and he has put another 200,000 miles on it and loves it.
