Replaced the CKP sensor today.

About a week ago, Cummins NW did a diagnostic and found a bad CKP sensor. Since that time, the engine has been idling not as smoothly as before. Before going to Cummins NW I had plenty of "smooth" power except when tach went to zero. Still idles roughly even after new CKP sensor. Anyone have any ideas?

I can't comment on the vibration, but from what I have read (and I'm sorry to say) it sound's to me that they (Cummins) may have installed a bad CKP or you have a loose connection.

Check the connection and go from there.

Hope this helps.

BigDaddy,

I replaced the CKP sensor myself. The engine vibration started after the Cummins tech performed his diagnostic test to check for codes. Just seems like an odd coincidence that a second problem happens after trying to correct the first. :(

I have received new components in the past that have been defective.

In this situation, basic troubleshooting says to evaluate/confirm the last work performed. Is it possible that you got a bad CKP sensor?

On a side note (and taking a shot in the dark), I once had a slight miss and jittery tach at idle. After isolating all my related aftermarket products, and reviewing many threads, I could not determine the cause and was set to go to the stealer for what I thought was "CKP". As luck would have it, I could not get in for a week. In the mean time, I changed the Oil and fuel filter. Shazam, no more problems. That fuel filter only had 5K miles on it and I drain my Fuel/water separator at every fill up and fuel up at the Pilot religiously.

Just some food for thought:D

Hey, BigDaddy

Guess what! I replaced the fuel filter this morning:rolleyes:. No more engine vibration or loss of power!!! Went on a trip up to Mt. Hood to go snow shoeing. mpg are up to where they use to be   . It's good to be behind a Cummins again. :D :D :D :D

Cliffman,

A CKP sensor is a crankshaft position sensor. Found out about this sensor in the Daimler Chrysler service manual for my model year truck. Big, thick, orange book. Couldn't live without it. :)
