engine whine?

Ok, I've just started hearing two new noises, and one I think is related to the fuel pressure gauge, but not sure. One of them I am getting sounds like a power steering pump whine when it's idling. I can hear it get a little louder/higher pitched when I rev it, but goes away, or just can't hear it after about 1200 rpms. Any idea's what to check? Also, I am getting a buzzing/hissing type sound from about 1500-2000. It's much more noticable when I hold it at about 1700 and when I down shift. It almost sounds like the fuel pressure isolator pulsing. Anyone else have that?

Where do you have your FP tapped into? I had mine right on the CP3 for a short time and it had a nasty rattle/buzz. Moved it to the bottom of fuel filter canister and it's gone. It wasn't really fast or super high pitched though, not really a whine, just a buzz.

I've got mine in the fuel line going into the pump. I might move it to the bottom of the fuel filter though. The other whine is something else I think. I'm just not sure what it could be.

aggieLR that is your geartrain you are hearing (gears for injection pump, cam, & oil pump). Normal noise.

A whine is often from an accessory, higher pitches indicate a small bearing. Mine turned out to be an alternator bearing. It was easy to find by placing a length of dowell rod between various engine parts and my ear.

Mine is in right now for a water pump. It was high pitched for a while then got worse to the point you could see@ least . 25 inch of runout on the water pump. Never did leak any fliud.

Truck has 10k on it.

I think it all must have been something to do with the fuel pressure guage isolator. I put a foam pad between it and the metal surface where I had it mounted and the noises completely went away. I think it has to do with the pulses the pusher pume puts out and the vibes you get from the CP3 while it's running. I listened for it all day today, and none of the noises I heard before were there.
