Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) engine year

is there any way to date an engine without the data plate ? my new truck has a 53 block the orgonal motor was replaced with one that was supposed to be from a 2002 but the date is convinently worn away and cant be read on the data plate .

Are you talking about the ESN number on the data plate on the gear case? If the engine dataplate is not readable, the engine serial number should be able to be identified on the engine block on top of the oil cooler housing on ISB engines. There should also be engine information on the ECM dataplate.

the data plate buy the injection pump all the other years ive owned have had a year stamped right on that plate along with engine horsepower and valve clearance settings
