Let's talk!
Well, there have been attempts to make the DDRA fly and they were half-assed and not taken seriously.
Here's the situation, Steve St. Laurent and I had a meeting with the Seaman's and talked about organization and professionalism. Why? Because Joe was over-promising to track managers and under delivering. It was giving diesel drag racing a bad reputation. He had told people that they have around 400 members in the DDRA when in fact they had 58. He told me that they had 300 trucks committed to attending Thunder in Muncie and 7 showed up.
I put out a thing on several websites to get folks information on the DDRA and races if they email me. I had 42 responses, I still have them. I gave that list to the Seaman's and not ONE packet was mailed! Now if they want to run their names into the ground that's fine, but noone runs mine into the ground, I can do that on my own!
As far as the DHRA. I first must say that I can't do it on my own. I made several calls to folks that I thought had the same passion about drag racing as I do. On the phone I feel I was very realistic about the extremely large amount of work that would need to be done by all of us. Still, I had 5 guys commit to being directors. We ordered up a graphic artist to create a logo and created a webpage with a forum so we could start putting together the logistics. So far Doug Smith and I are the only ones that have paid one penny for anything, I am the only one that has posted one thing one the website. Apparently noone really wants to work on this.
The only people that are ready to do anything are the Texans and I applaud them for moving on. I have emailed Brad Webster about using the DHRA name for himself.
So, I have shifted my focus on my career here, building a house and a race truck for 2004. The DHRA has a logo, and a website. It is primed and ready for some people that want to see it happen. I have such a passion to see it happen, but can't deal with the frustration right now. Once I get my life stable, I will be back. Ready to race!
