Deo, you think I could get that 6V-53 installed by May into my drag vehicle/creature?? :D

I surely hope that more folks come out and quit complaining about the $$ factor... . you can't take it with you when St. Pete tells you to hop on the flatbed... . so you might as well spend it NOW!

Speaking of the DDRA

Hey Deo,

what's going on with that? I heard a little, but can you fill me in on what Doug's plans are?

Hey Eric, I'm kinda stuck in the middle of the ddra stuff ha. On one side is Doug Doring and Doug Sortiro and the other side is Joe Seaman. .

Supposedly Doug Doring is taking over the ddra from Joe , because Doug was sick of Joe not getting newsletters out and supposedly Doug was getting complaints from ddra members about the lack of newsletters, especially after they paid their dues etc. The other side is Joe Seaman who does promote a lot of races and does race alot. Joe has been upset with Doug for not attening big events like this past englishtown becuase oug din' believe Joe that E-Town would allow nitrousand have pay outs. Whereas Doug and Doug only seem to attend races if they can make $... As I have Doug Dorings old race truck and Doug Sortiro's old race engine I do talk to them often and I only see Joe Seaman at races etc... , personally I like them all. But I DO NOT like that Doug and Doug won't attend races unless the purse is high. To me that defeats the purpose. I mean racing is fun and thats why you do it, period! . You either like it or you don't. You can not expect to make $ racing... But Doug and Doug insist that they need to recoup some $ for their expenses ie transport fuel costs etc... I think that would be cool, but if the sport is growing, and your trying to get more people involved, then the more diesel race vehicles out there racing the better. If the crowd sees more sick diesel racers, then the tracks will be more apt to pay $ in the future to have them run at their tracks to sell more event tickets. But until the diesel racing is bigger that will be harder to do. So comprimise is needed. As for Joe he has a tough time as a owner operator and doing the ddra. If he's too busy to get newsletters out , I can understand, but I do like seeing a newsletter myself. . If people are over whelmed then ask for help! I'm sure lots of guys would volunteer to help with a newsletter ! bBasically I think that Doug shouln't "Take over control" of the ddra, but all the guys need to sit down and work together. Sadly thats not happening and I'm not sure how it's gonna turn out. The latest word is Doug Doug is taking control from Joe and going to change so things ie newsletter on schedule and who knows what else. I could talk a long time about this, and if you want email me and we will. -- email address removed --

Personally I'd like to hear about your diesel drag race association! How do I join? What is the goal? and Whats happening with it?...

Thanks

Let's talk!

Well, there have been attempts to make the DDRA fly and they were half-assed and not taken seriously.

Here's the situation, Steve St. Laurent and I had a meeting with the Seaman's and talked about organization and professionalism. Why? Because Joe was over-promising to track managers and under delivering. It was giving diesel drag racing a bad reputation. He had told people that they have around 400 members in the DDRA when in fact they had 58. He told me that they had 300 trucks committed to attending Thunder in Muncie and 7 showed up.

I put out a thing on several websites to get folks information on the DDRA and races if they email me. I had 42 responses, I still have them. I gave that list to the Seaman's and not ONE packet was mailed! Now if they want to run their names into the ground that's fine, but noone runs mine into the ground, I can do that on my own! ;)

As far as the DHRA. I first must say that I can't do it on my own. I made several calls to folks that I thought had the same passion about drag racing as I do. On the phone I feel I was very realistic about the extremely large amount of work that would need to be done by all of us. Still, I had 5 guys commit to being directors. We ordered up a graphic artist to create a logo and created a webpage with a forum so we could start putting together the logistics. So far Doug Smith and I are the only ones that have paid one penny for anything, I am the only one that has posted one thing one the website. Apparently noone really wants to work on this.

The only people that are ready to do anything are the Texans and I applaud them for moving on. I have emailed Brad Webster about using the DHRA name for himself.

So, I have shifted my focus on my career here, building a house and a race truck for 2004. The DHRA has a logo, and a website. It is primed and ready for some people that want to see it happen. I have such a passion to see it happen, but can't deal with the frustration right now. Once I get my life stable, I will be back. Ready to race!

Ok cool another side of the scene. Man I didn't know Joe Talked that much stuff. Kinda crazy promising tracks hundreds of trucks . Well your reply kinda echos what Doug Doring has said. What he and Doug S keep saying is that Doug D is very regimated and will get the ddra back on track . The what to do away with the web site, which I'm not sure is even up now?, to save $. But i think the websites bring in more members. especially if there is a members rides area showcasing pics an info on every members truck that woul be cool to see pics of some of the sick trucks that are not in one persons locale ie i probably would not tavel to a west coast race so if i on the east coast want to check out some trucks i see in the newsletter then the website could do that. I think a forum on the website would be awesome a ? and answer /tech forum were people share info and help other diesel heads go fast. Doug and Dougs feelings on sharing info have been pretty cool so far . . their deal is we'll help you go as fast as us but as soon as you run comparative #'s your on you own ha..... no i know i won't have a10sec diesel just yet so i should be cool . Yeah I'm game my self and I'm pretty 99% sure Holeset holeshot Mat amero is also... what do you nee us to do etc. . we are very enthusiatic. whats the web addres for the dhra?. . thanks

Deo

ps i also think the dougs are a little behind on some diesel tech/ ieas. . as they are a little behind or very oldschool... the think staged or sequential turbos are bad because they have too much lag! ???? and they don't believe intercoolers are useful on a drag vehicle etc??? plus the have said there is no way a 5. 9L cummins will run with a v6 detroit as the power to weight ratio is weighted towards the 2 stroke detroit. . i'm not to sure of that now i think you could get as much as doug is getting out of his from a cummins 850 hp or so and 1500 ftlbs? maybe not but i think a drag only vehicle coul do something close. . i think the weights are pretty close with the detroit being a little heavier. . what do you think?...

The 6V-53 with the iron block outweighs the 6BT by at least 150#... . And I believe the aluminum blocks are flexing too much... . which is causing Doug S some issues.

We're making a pretty good number of 740hp +/- an ounce to the wheels... . so, we're almost there.....

I'd be happy to contribute anything I am capable of to get this sport going... .

Maybe I'll have a 10-second ride this spring... we'll see.

We plan on having a website. I think having everyone talk about the racing on here ot the Ford site would be more beneficial. The web address is www.dhraonline.com and we will be diesel pickups only.

Doug Smith (JetPilot) is the man for the East Coast. I'm sure he would appreciate any help from you guys. I think we are going to come up with a point system so everyone can use it across the nation. If we have enough divisional interest then we'll keep points per division. If not, then we'll keep the points across the board.

George... it's not technically a truck, and as it sits (in a field behind my buddy's house... ) it still has a turbo gasser in it... .

I'm looking to do some drastic changes to it in the next few month, however. :D

hey matt i had a big brain sneeze last night and thought a couple of the engine sitting in my parrnets driveway shed might look cool in a custom stretched little field vehicle of yours like 1104 cubic inches or 552 cubic inches maybe we can get p@s to sponsor us with a 740 allison?. . heh an a front axle and a rear axle... lots of power heck even if it was set up really mild your looking at 1000hp. . 500 each hehe... and for my chassis get a fiberglass willys pickup cab and bed for it or a old steel 20's -50's pickup cab and nose and chop it down to fit..... hey does any one wanna buy a fiberglass flip nose for a 73 -79 chevy truck?

later

deo

I dunno... . the weight of 1100 cubic inches is a little insane... .

I like the idea of one 600hp engine that we already have available and know how it runs... :D Not that having a bolted-together V-12 is a BAD thing... :)
