Help on Chrysler Town and Country

Tractor Lift Capcity Question

This gem of a quote sums it up nicely:

But let me be clear that hybrid cars are designed solely to milk the guilt genes of the smug and the foolish. And that pure electric cars, such as the G-Wiz and the Tesla, don’t work at all because they are just too inconvenient.

And this:

Good only for parting the smug from their money

:-laf:-laf:-laf

BUT - before we laugh too hard and long - let's see how long it takes the current administration to "persuade" GM and Chrysler that cars like those, are what the future of this country and the world is destined for...

Are we going to start bashing Japanese engineering like we did back in the '70s and
80's when they produced well built economical cars and all we could offer were Pintos
and Vegas?

Well ford came out with a diesel car that got 50mpg and only built it 2 years. I had a ford TUNNIS that got 32mpg in 1962. I think the oil people had something to do with them getting put on the outs. Ford built it over seas. was shipped home by a man in the ARMEY

Hey! That's my Vega your insulting there. My Dad bought it new and got 45,000 miles out of it before he had to rebuild the engine. Then, when it was time again for a rebuild, he gave the car to me(I was 12 at the time). So, if nothing else that car taught me how to turn a wrench.

Nope not bashing the Japs at all. Its the idea that a company, any company, and that includes Obamamamas GM, Ford, or Chrysler would build a P. O. S. car just to appease the enviro-wackos and try to pass it off as being for the "people". I've got news for them. The people don't want that crap, build a car that gets 50 mpg carries 6 people and is safe, heck I'd buy one, gas or diesel.

Contrary to what the Obamamama enviro-wackos would like you to believe we have enough carbon based fuel (oil:)) to last the U. S. for hundreds of years right here in our own country. You want to help our own economy, quit sending hundreds of millions of $$$$$$$$ to Canada, the Middle East and Hugo Chavez every month. The wackos that lead the "Holy Church of Mother Earth" have convinced the left leaning politicians that carbon based fuel is bad, bad, bad. That Sir is a heavy load of bull manure.

P. S. When it comes to oil, the Repubs, are not much better.

Regardless of who or what the administration is those currently sitting at the helm (And trust me I am not on the "Change" bandwagon); why can they not allow the market to dictate. Rather the Liberal agenda is that "we cannot let the market dictate our policies, we must initiate policy reform". Thus, self imposed policies are set forth that end up stifling the market and economic growth. That being said, I do think other aspects should be kept in mind other than money and the economy.

BTW, have you flown across this great country of ours? Notice how many trees there are? How arrogant of man to think that we can influence the climate with our activities.

I do believe the government needs to play a much less roll in our lives and "let the market dictate". I for one am seeing the direct influence of self imposed policy and how it affects the free market. I work in healthcare construction; up until Mr. Obama's Healthcare reform surfaced we in the healthcare construction field had felt very little of this “recession”. However, once the reform has been announced the amount of work coming in the door for us to look at has plummeted. We will see how this plays out.

Last night I saw VW's ad for their TDI where the owner makes fun of his neighbor's Prius. Keep an eye out for it- very well done. They also claim that the TDI CAN get 58 MPG.

That was a Brit bashing em.

This was my favorite quote

It’s the first car I’ve ever considered crashing into a tree, on purpose, so I didn’t have to drive it any more.

Now that just doesn't sound very green:-laf

Saw it, funny!!

I can't speak to the new TDI's; but I did have a, '01 Jetta TDI that brought in a solid 54 MPG's at ~75-80 mph. Pretty sweet little ride. Handled like it was on "rails".

THAT is an ad I would LOVE to see... and I wish BMW would really PUSH their diesels. They have a 40 MPG 3 liter inline 6 now that is in a REAL and PRACTICAL car (and 30 MPG in the SUV)... and Honda needs to bring their diesel here. It is an AWESOME little engine. Powerful and efficient. If they bring it, it WILL sell!! A solid, REAL 50 MPG car that is ADVERTISED will get attention and buyers.

Step 1: Go to a BMW dealer

Step 2: Drive a BMW 335D

There ... That was easy

Now, what I would wish for is four cylinder BMW Diesels in the 1 series (4 door, wagon please). They won't give the US the wagon 1 series or the cheaper(er) diesels. BMW NA perception is that people won't buy them. Please, contact BMW and let them know you would buy an effcient 4 cylinder BMW wagon if one was avaialbe.

They've blocked my number, or I would keep calling.

Are you kidding? I had a 1976 Datsun 610 sedan in high school and it was built like a tin can and had the acceleration of a Biggest Loser contestant on a bicycle. :-laf I think the metal was about as thick as tin foil. You could almost lean against the car and dent the sheet metal (whatever was left that hadn't rusted away). Typical of nearly every 1970s Japanese car I drove, the quality of the materials (especially the interior) was somewhere between Fisher Price and Mattel.

My 1977 Datsun truck nearly rusted before my eyes after two winters of Michigan salted roads. The engines were bullet proof but the rest of the vehicle fell apart around the engines.

My wife's old 1974 Pinto wasn't much to look at but it got her through her senior year of high school and 4 years of college with no repairs needed except oil changes, a new tire and a set of brake pads.

Japanese cars were jokes until the mid to late 1980s.

A observation from recent tip

What gives with the Prius drivers????

The wife and I just got back from a 3250-mile west coast drive. Southwest Arizona up to Las Vegas, I-15 to SLC, then to Helena Mt. and on and on and on. Anyway the reason for the post... The speed limit on I-15, I-90, I-5 and others, in places is 70, to 80 mph. (for you east coast guys)

Question????What is the fuel mileage for a Toyota Prius going 80mph????? I ask because I would normally drive 5 over the posted limit in the 3500 and I was constantly being passed by the retired hippies driving the Toyota pisser. The other main driver for the Prius was collage age girls around metropolitan areas. (I did not know the little suckers would go that fast:-laf)

Only saw one Honda "designed and priced for all of us car"

Seems like the envirowackos if they were really concerned for the enviro would observe the speed limit:-laf:-laf:-laf:-laf

Where are they going to hide all those batteries when they die?. Maybe put them in 55 gallon drums and bury them with nuclear waste?. Does anyone know the cost of battery replacement for the Prius?. Just curious.

What is their number? We drove the X5 suv with the diesel. She wants one. I am considering either a lease return or waiting 7-10 years till she is tired of hers (if that actually happens with that SWEET vehicle!) and buying hers... also if my Liberty will hold up till then!

The BMW 3. 5 liter is an awesome engine. VERY peppy and quiet!

In 2005 my mom bought a new VW Golf diesel. $22,000 and loaded with all the gizmos including moonroof. AND AND AND its a normal size (for a small car), normal riding car that doesn't have an LCD display showing leaves growing on trees when your in electric mode. She currently gets 40MPG easy in all her highway driving. She has well over 100K on the clock. BUT... the envirowackos didn't like this and upped the emissions once again and in 2006. 5, 2007 and 2008 you could no longer get the VW diesel. Too good to be true... so it was legislated out of the market. Now its back but will go away again for a few years I'm sure.

As far as this Honda is concerned... remember Germans also wanted an appealing car for the masses. The peoples car. VW Beetle. Cute, nice, harmless, affordable, sellable, economical, mass production, enjoyable.

I especially like the VW free oil change commercial. This is only a clip. All I could find.
