We all knew it was coming. H&S and Mads will probably be next. I like what Harvey calls the EPA. "The Economic Punishment Agency. "

I too wonder how soon the EPA will be going after the Smarty Tuner? Here's a quote for that product:

Smarty Tuner

The Smarty Tuner specializes in Dodge Cummins tunes and is flat out the best at it. We offer both the Smarty Tuner and Smarty Jr with the ME tune pre-installed so you can delete your DPF.

Looks like EPA will be knocking them off one by one...

Smarty pulled their ME tuning for the 6. 7's, and H&S has been in litigation with the EPA. Unknown what fines may come their way, but they no longer sell the Mini Max and XRT delete tunes because of it. H&S are calling the new software "Street" Mini Max or XRT; DPF compliant software.

Edge was the first on the radar and is a trickle effect. Future software from EFI will not have the option available of turning off the emission components.

Gary,
The Mads (Smarty) Electronics Company is an Italian base firm, so I do not think they can fine Mads like Edge. Same with EFI Live which is a New Zeeland Corporation, the EPA would have a hard time posing a fine on them too. The Mads (Smarty) sold the S67 and the JR J-67 tuners to be emission compliant but you could download the ME software and change the tuner and they are still for sale. As others have posted Mads did pull the ME software off of their site for the US. The EPA could go after the distributor's maybe but they could all close up shop.

What gets me is, that the mandate requires them to update coal and wood burning stoves of people that have them and want to convert to a pellet stoves that produces less polutants. To the tune of a bunch of money.

Yes Bill, we've run into the same thing in Alaska except that EPA certified stoves from 2006 are no longer approved! We were finally able to beat the EPA back here by voting down any government regulation of how we heat our homes. We were able to vote out our emissions testing also! Our local electric coop is listed on the same EPA site as being fined millions and needing to clean up its emissions. We are already have the highest utility bills in the entire nation and the EPA will make it worse for us.

Yep, you are probably right about 2006 approved wood stoves not being approved according to present EPA rules.

What does your electric cooperative use for fuel? We're served by an electric cooperative also; however, our cooperative doesn't generate electricity. It buys from other generating sources using Wyoming coal, local lignite coal, and natural gas. We are charged a base rate with a fuel adjustment charge for how much of the different fuels are used during the billing cycle and the total cost averages around $0. 10 to $0. 11 per kwh. Our primary heat source is with electric heat pumps. The wood stove is a comfortable and economical addition burning our own wood.

Bill, our Coop uses diesel and some coal. The Healy clean coal plant in the above article was built, approved by the EPA and just prior to coming on line the approval was pulled by the same EPA that gave it! We've been held hostage here in Alaska by outside interests like the Sierra club, Earth First, No Nukes North etc. So now that we've been hosed into spending an additional 40 million we MIGHT get to fire up that new, unused coal plant at some point. Obama and the Economic Punishment Agency are doing thier best to ruin the lower 48 as well as starve (or freeze out depending on how you look at it) out Alaskans by crippling us with higher fuel prices by limiting what we can make electricity with as well as cutting drilling in an effort to increase fuel costs. I'm getting off of the topic of the original post so this will be my last comment on the subject within this thread.

JJ, I like your avatar! Come and take them!!!

Thanks DFitz!

I actually borrowed it from my Son's cellphone... , he's an Anchorage resident, works at Providence Hospital as an Invasive Cardiovascular Tech. I didn't know what it meant until I googled it. Kid keeps making me proud!

Wait until you try and grill that hamburger with your grill this summer without a DPF being connected and EGR for your grill. The EPA will get you for pollution of the environment and fine you for cooking outside.

A recent study funded by the South Coast Air Quality Management District and the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District (Calif) has found that commercially cooked burgers put out more particulate material than the 07 to 10 clean diesel vehicles

So this will be next frontier for the EPA to tackle grilling outside with the old barbecue grill.

Within 30 days of the entry of the consent decree, Cummins will mitigate excess emissions through permanent retirement of banked emission credits. The emissions credits to be retired are the equivalent to the lifetime excess emissions from the 633 engines either known or projected to have been installed in vehicles with incorrect or missing ATDs.

So, these emission credits, are those the "Carbon credits" al gore and his fanatics tell people they need to pay monies into, so they can feel good about themselves? Yet the monies do nothing but make these clowns richer and do nothing else?
