RV manufacturers update?

Anyone use any products from local stores and have success on re coating/sealing epdm? I find it hard believe the “only” brands are rv rubber roof specific

No, never used any caulk, cleaning products or coating not specifically made for EPDM. I think it's the chemical composition of other coatings that prevent them from being used on EPDM. I understand anything that degrades the EPDM results in roof failure. I spent $1,200 on Crazy Seal and applied it myself to add additional protection and for a more durable roof. someone else may have another answer, but after own three 5th wheels with EPDM rooves, there's no way I would apply anything that wasn't specifically designed for EPDM.

I have owned two Mobile Suites and three other brands with rubber roofs and never coated one of them. I used Dicor on all. Never had a roof leak or failure.
Dont you have fiberglass on your current MS? I had a tree puncture mine on three separate times on the MS... I carried a repair kit and made professional repair each time.
It was the first one I used a coating to make it TOUGHER... it was much thicker and Otherwise, no problems on any of them.

OP never mentioned condition of his. Two of three of mine were garaged when not in use. I treated all of them with EPDM cleaner and treatment. First 5er EPDM roof was on perfect condition after 12 years and no tree damage either. Should have consulted Ron where to travel or better where not to out West and Northwest.

So, back to the OP question: depending upon condition of your roof you don't necessarily NEED a coating, but if you WANT a coating my reference is good. If yours is in REALLY bad condition, you may need a replacement.

Cheers and try to avoid trees, Ron

I like Wiredawg and Cummins12V98, have used nothing but products recommended for the EPDM roofs. I also clean my roof every year with a roof cleaner formulated for EPDM roofs. It usually takes only a day to clean and inspect my roof and repair as needed such as resealing with the the proper EPDM caulk.

I also carry a tube that is un-open with a manual caulking gun in the trailer. This is rotated each year with the new tube replacing the one from that is stored in the trailer.

Roll of Eternabond and tube of Dicor always on hand.

No Fiberglass roof. At the time Rolling Retreats were advising against them.

YES I have had a couple encounters with tree branches, GRRRRRRRR.

Eternabond is the best!! Had to fix a tear one time and it held up and as far as I know is still going. I use DICOR self leveling sealant as Jim W to fix crack when they appear in my annual clean / protect campain.

Thanks everyone for the insight. I actually did a inspection with scaffolding and 2x12s and inspected my roof and it looks a brand new layer micky Thompson drag tire surface but did see cracks at every vent, cover and AC area where the PO before me used either home based caulk and silicone it all just peeled off pretty easily. I settled for 3m and loctite polyurethane base Seam sealers as they are moisture curing, naturally self leveling, don’t contain petroleum or high VOCs and the original sealant on the actual EPDM is great. I did buy that EPDM tape for any future tree branches . Again thanks everyone!
