RV Usage and High Fuel Prices

Hi guys.

I just bought a new 24' v-nose enclosed car trailer with 7000 axles. I will be picking it up in a couple weeks. So the trailer is rated 14000#, trailer rough weight is 4600# and tongue weight is about 550#. I will be using it to haul a truck with a weight of less than 5500#. My guess is hauling between 10,000 to 12,000 range. The weights above were estimates from the actual manufacture. I will weight it when I pick it up.

2 questions.

1. is the factory class 4 hitch ok to use or do I have to upgrade the hitch to a class 5. I'd like to keep the stock hitch if possible. If not what's a good brand with out modifying the truck

2. I'm looking for a good equalizer and or sway control. I'd like to stay under 5 or 6 hundred dollars. also I'm not sure the truck will add to the tongue. I want to by the equalizer now before picking up the trailer

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

I have the Reese Dual Cam with sway control and have been pleased with it. My toyhauler has a tongue weight @ 1,000 lbs, heavier when the buggies out, and I've pulled with the stock hitch on my Yukon XL and the Dodge without any problem. Everything is with in specs Pics in gallery.

P. S. I have the 12,000 / 1,200 lb hitch.

We installed a Reese Dual Cam system on our TT this spring and have been very pleased with the performance. BUT . . . as with any of these systems, tuning in is very important. Proper install = good performance

I bought my Hidden Hitch equalizer & sway control through JC Whitney with one of their 15% off deals. It was the best deal I found delivered to my doorstep.
