Does anyone know how to erase wrong software flash in a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500? Technician put in 2004 5.9L Cummins flash and now no pedal and erronous MIL faults. Trying to save new controller.

Never found a way to do it. Would love to find a way though. I thought I remember the Smarty would put a controller back to bootloader.

I wonder if a Cummins dealer could scrub it clean even though they could not put the Dodge load back in.

I will call down this morning, I don't know if my favorite Cummins tech is working today or not.

Mike.

I just called Donnie, he says that he has put ECM's into brick or paperweight mode before.

With Cummins software he has learned the following..

If you can't communicate with it you are done. Game over.

If you can still communicate with it then in our truck side of the world you can load what he called "Fleet Programming" and get it going again to accept the correct load.

I would assume that is a similar solution with Dodge.

Mike.

He also mentioned that a separate Cummins communications interface is required to do this, he called it a $200.00 special tool.

If it would be helpful I could put you guys in touch. Let me know.

Mike.

Thanks to all responses of help. Thanks Mike. If we could talk to each other maybe I can get Cummins dealer in Grand Rapids,Mi. to do. If not I will talk to Brian or Bob @ Smarty.

So you bought a new ECM and loaded the correct program? Or did you salvage the old ECM? Ken Irwin

Ecm

Yes bought another blank ECM and programmed myself so tech wouldn't screw up again. Needed to get truck fixed and back to customer. The only way I could salvage the old ECM is with the wrong software in it for wrong year, model and engine calibration but will probably never need one for.
