I have an Air Dog (AD) fuel pump and Westach 0-30 psi guage and transmitter. A red warning light came with the AD and is wired directly to the light to indicate when the pump is not supplying pressure.
The AD is plumbed directly to the VP44 with 1/2 inch I. D. fuel line. Just before the fuel line gets to the VP44 there is a tee that supplies fuel pressure to the transmitter.
Here's the problem: The AD is factory set to supply 15 psi and under normal circumstances the gauge reads 15 psi when I'm driving. However, there are times when the psi will slowly drop to 10 and then immediately fall off to zero only to then return back to 10 or even up to 15. The red light never comes on and the engine gives no indication of fuel starvation. I have no reason to think the AD is cycling on and off.
These erratic readings can occur with total irregularity, whether the truck is moving or standing still. I can get a change in psi, sometimes, by standing still and shifting from neutral to reverse without the truck ever moving. Other times it will happen when I shift to reverse, back up and apply the brakes. On the highway, the readings can fluctuate whether the road is smooth or rough, at any speed and regardless of acceleration or deceleration.
I have changed the gauge 3 times and had Westach test the transmitter, which was o. k. I have changed the fuel filter on the AD with no correction to the problem.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
