I know this has probably been hashed over a million times, but it is new to me. I have 98 24 valve, and all seems normal til it gets to the lock up shift, in 4th. it goes back and forth at around 45-50 mph(in and out of lock up) then I speed up and it goes in the non lockup mode and stays there. Where do I start looking?TPS? seems like throttle position controls it. when I nail it, it goes into non lock up. thanks a million. (signature not current. 95 gone. enter 98 24 Valve. )

Your close, probably only half a million times. Do a search on erratic torque converter lock up and clean your battery terminals.

God bless you. cleaned cable ends at batt connection and all shifts smooth now!! Now one more question. Don't know if I have 354 or 4. 10 gear. At 65 mph, tach reads 2200 . I have standard size tires, 245X75X 16 and it gets 20. 5 mpg empty. what does that tell you. I did have a 95 Ram Diesel with 3. 54 gear at 70 mph I was making 1900 rpm. . Also, the 95 had a code, or it just told you, on tag under hood. Where does 98 model tell yu gear ration. thanks.

I have a 98. 5 24valve and mine has a Spicer 70 rearend with 3. 55 gears in it. It is a automatic, and if I'm not mistaken, I am at about 1500rpm at 50 mph, give or take..... not quite as much freeway up here:D;)

I have a 98. 5, 24V that I put 273 gears in and I run just 1750 at 60 MPH. It had 355's in it and with them I ran 1600 at 60 MPH. My ratio is on a sticker under the hood. Sounds like your ratio is 410 to 1. :) :)

Crawl under the truck and look at the little metal tag bolted to the differential cover. It will tell you what gears that you have in there.
