erratic starting

Ive got a 98 12 valve that has started giving me problems in the past couple weeks. When the engine is cold ,and you try to start engine, somtimes you can just hear a click at the starter and then try again and engine will start,sometimes it takes 4or5 cycles of the key before it will start. It does seem to be getting worse. Any suggestions would be apprieciated. Jason

Jason, sounds like your starter solenoid contacts are history. Do a seach on starter solenoid topic for some great info relating to your problem. You can buy just the contacts from an auto electrical house for about $10 or order a kit with a few more parts for about $30. Again, all of this is cover in previous post by several members.



This problem needs to be corrected now, not later. Bad contacts can lead to your starter not disengaging after starting and creating other problems. You will read about this if you do the above search.

First thing I would do is check all the terminals to see if they are clean and getting good contact. Batteries and starter.
