Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Erratic transmission gauge?

While backing the 5'er into a parking spot the trans. temp gets quite high - around 260* On the last occasion it hit about 260* then immediately dropped to 0*, bounced around a bit then back up to 260*



Anyone have an idea what may cause this? The sending unit is in the line to the cooler. Is it possible that it was foaming and sucking air? Is it anything to be concerned about? Since then everything seems normal.

I wouldn't be too concerned if it's just done this once. 260* is getting a little HOT though. I've seen 220+ & at that point just shut it off & let it cool down & then re-finished parking once it was cooler. Just my . 02
