Error codes 0500 & 1693 - suggestions??

Howdy all,

Yesterday after making several runs at the drag strip, I got a check engine light. Another of our TSR gang had the Dodge shop manual and was kind enough to lookup these codes for me. The 0500 code said basically "No vehicle speed sensor found" and Treeman said the 1693 code is a very common code, but I didn't see what the manual specifically said about it.

Anyway, by the time I got home last night, the check engine light had gone out, so I doubt there was ever any real problem with the truck. Oh, both the tach and speedometer never stopped working at all.

I'm just curious if anyone might be able to shed some light on what might be going on. See my sig for BOMBs to the truck.

Guess I need to get one of these shop manuals... .

Thanks,

Tom

UPDATE: Ok, I goofed. The error code was 1693, NOT 1963 as I originally posted. Sorry... .

was it 1963 or 1693---1693 is very common and nothing to worry about and 0500 I've got no idea until I go check the manual for my '99----since they went away forget about 'em--chris

1693... ... ... ... . acceleration skid... ... ... (You spun your tires)

0500... ... ... ... .communication code (lack of)... ... .computer doesn't understand burning rubber.

Tom,

Those codes are funnier than he!!. Do you think that maybe they were self inflicted???? i have 2001 manuals if you ever need to borrow them.

1693 - common code... often times associated with overboost. I pulled my COMP off (no boost module) and ran with my injectors... thats the code I set.

The 0500 is vehicle speed sensor code I think (going from memory here).

I don't have my manual with me to look up 1963 ... are you sure it wasn't 1693?

Thanks all, really appreciate the help.

I got a bit scared, because I haven't ever set any codes before, or at least haven't seen the check engine light come on before, so I got a little nervous. I'm glad to hear the codes I set are indeed associated with drag racing :D
