My Espar is barely one year old but it's already crapping out on me. It takes 6 or more attempts to start it each morning. Continually gives me an F52 or F53 error code. My fuel supply is fine. Intake and
exhaust routes are unobstructed. Once the unit finally fires up I can turn it on and off all day with no problems, but the next morning it won't start. This is why I think the metering pump is have trouble pulling the fuel along the line for the first start of the day. Unfortunately ESPAR has been useless with product support. First, the dealer in Romulus Mich. passed me off to the manufacturer, who advised me to dismantle the unit and send it to them for inspection.
This would render my truck immobile until the
heater is returned. My second call to the dealer got me a "see what we can do and call you back" response. They never called me back. Incidentally, the warranty is only 12 months, so apparently I'm on my own as far as
repair costs are concerned. You know you have a mickey mouse product when the dealer/manufacturer won't back it up. I checked with the two local school bus companies and found out they use Webasto's in their vehicles. Seems that had nothing but trouble with ESPAR and won't touch them.
For those of you considering a hydronic preheater, I suggest the high price combined with poor reliability and product support render these compicated gizmos pretty much useless. If you already have an ESPAR I may be selling my POS for parts. God knows your gonna need them.
