Hi, I searched but could not find a definate answer maybe someone can help. I know it runs off a timer and a remote but my problem is that i work for the railroad and do not go to work at the same time. It's not a problem at home (plugged in) but at work it sits sometimes for 2 days with nowhere to plug in and it is a pain to get started. Cab warmth is not a issue for me but the cold starts have me feeling i am removing 1000's of miles of my engines life each time i start it. Question is would it be worth the $$$ or if not i'm putting my gasser 87 4runner on the road to use next winter. Thanks in advance for any help.

I've had the ESPAR heater for about 6 years and like it alot. The problem is all the heaters will take some time to do their stuff. The ESPAR needs about 30 to 45 mins at say 10 deg to get things up to a decent temp and I think the block heater is about the same. The heater comes with a 7 day timer so if you know the day and time of your return you could set it for an hour before the expected return time and that should get you warmed up pretty well. The timer runs for two hours as defualt so as long as you have more than a quarter tank of fuel and a battery with a charge should work fine. If you leave your cab fan set to off it doesn't pull that much juice from the battery. I have only had two problems with the unit, fuel gell this year which I guess isn't the ESPARS fault and a couple of O-rings started to leak last year and the unit had to be removed to replace them. The leak was small so I used it all last winter with the leak and fixed it this summer when I had time. I do not think they still make the RAM kit with all the parts so that may be a hassle and they offered a group discount a while back that helped on the price. I personnally would do it again but it is a pain to install.

Been there, done that. Puked oil all over. Don't have my 6. 9 straight-piped. I have the 150hp. high altitude engine. :( Needs a turbo BAD. Will probably sell it this spring at the consignment auction.
