Since I installed my new lift pump last month I have only done a little light/moderate towing. Yesterday, I loaded the Massey-F, Rhino bush hog a boom and some other odds and ends on the flatbed. That's about 9K. With the new lift pump I could tell a substantial difference in the way the truck pulled the long hills. Funny but it almost has that rumble sound/feeling like my 98 12V had when it was pulling hard. The 12V guys know what I mean. I can tell a difference. I guess the pump had been getting weaker and I just didn't realize it. Anyway, that difference made a believer out of me on the importance of supplying adequate fuel pressure to the VP44.

Hey Alan, good to hear that. I'm putting my new pump on tonight. I don't think I have a problem, but I guess I'll find out for sure.

The new lift pump is in. Other than the pressure readings, I have not been able to detect anything different over the old lift pump. I did have a "burp" twice last night, once when revving the motor in idle and another in 4th gear running about 50 mph. It may have just been air in the system, because it didn't do it again. If that would continue, the old lift pump is going back on. As for the pressure readings, the inlet sender gives me a steady 16 psi at just about everywhere except WOT, where I am maybe seeing a drop to 13 psi. After the filter I can keep it at a steady 14 psi just about anywhere except WOT where I've seen it go to 12 psi. I managed to replace the pump from the top. I have an 11/16 socket that is MIA however. I think it may have fallen into the frame rail.

I just added the 275 injectors so I can't really claim anything yet. One thing I have noticed besides the higher fuel pressure readings is that I can't peak boost at 28 psi. Right after I put the injectors in, I could get it to peak at 28. Since I put the new lift pump on, I have only seen a peak boost of 27 psi. Not a big drop and nothing to be concerned with, just some more information to digest. The truck is running well. It goes in tonight for the differential housing replacement.
