Euro Truck Racing Round #1

OK, just saw the race highlights on Speedvision: FIA European Truck Racing Cup Round #1 at Dijon, France. In the qualifying race the finishing order was: MAN, Mercedes, Mercedes, MAN. It was a full field of 12 trucks with two classes competing at the same time. These are purpose-built racers with mid-engines, sequential gearboxes, water-cooled brakes... but limited to 100mph. The feature race was run in the rain and slowing and turning a speeding tractor on wet pavement with little visibilty isn't easy! In the end, it was 1. MAN, 2. CAT,3. MAN, and 4. Mercedes. Round #2 will be from Valencia, Spain in a couple weeks.

We've had that Harry Lustriani guy (sp) at the plant before in the CAT truck. He has been the #1 guy in points several years. One of the rules is absolutly no smoke at all from the engines, so theres more to it than "turnin it up". The CAT team uses the same engine all year long. The other teams are like John Force with 10 spares in the back of a semi truck parked by the other spare parts. Kind of neat to see. Their 0-60 times are faster than most fast street cars.

Chad, I didnt know about the 'smoke rule'! I remember hearing (years ago) that Injection of Pittsburg did a couple teams' motors. . on the order of 2000hp! The steam pouring from the water-cooled brakes is an added level of 'WOW, cool!'
