Just got back from a trip to Europe (Germany, to be exact). Got a chance to get out on the Autobahn a few times. Saw a bunch of diesel cars and heavy duty trucks, their equivalent of our 18 wheelers. One thing I noticed was the lack of smoke from any of them. Even the big rigs going up a good grade pulling hard!
Drove a Mercedes van with a diesel in it. Had no lower end power, but did well on the top end. All the way over 100 mph on the open road. Checked the mileage out and figured it at over 25mpg at those speeds! I was impressed. Seems the smaller diesels I saw also had the type of injection that the new Cummins is supposed to get. They were very quiet.
As for price, I was griping about $1. 29 here. The best price I saw over there was $. 90 per liter... 3. 8 liters per gallon... you do the math!
Anyway, just some observations. Glad to be back in the land of the free
