Has anyone had any trouble with the evaporater coil on your trucks? My A/C started leaking, so the A/C man added some dye to the system. When the A/C stoped working again we looked for the leak but couldn't find any. He said it had to be the evap. coil,Dodge's have a lot of trouble with them. What about it?Thanks in advance, R. C.

Don't fix a leak you can't find. If the dye is in it he should be able to find it. We have a sniffer at work that works real good. Once the system is flat go ahead and pull the evaporator out and look for the dye.

Most automotive failures are in the seals. Comes from not operating it monthly. "O" rings dry out and crack.

If it is the evap. they can be soldered if the guy is good.

Don't just blindly put an evap in the truck, too much money for a guess. I've had condenser leaks that will go flat in a few days and have only trace amounts of dye showing at the leak point. Last year I picked up a new sniffer and UV dye set up and have been impressed with some of the hard to find leaks we've taken care of. Spend some time to diagnose it properly, it can be kinda tough sometimes to determine if an evap has failed.

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I'll drop the glove box and what ever else to gain some acess to see if I can find the leak. When I do, I'll post the results.

Thanks again, R. C.

Koa Man had really good luck with a certain brand of stop leak. You might try to catch up with him and see what he figured out.

I'm in the same situation, with leakdowns about every other month and no results from the sniffer or the dye. I want to try some of that good stop leak stuff, too, whatever the brand name is. But I don't want to try it if it sets off the alarm in the vacuum equipment that tells you that the refrigerant is contaminated and AC men will no longer work on my equipment! :--)

RCrawford,

mine went kaputs a few months back I too had the dye to find leaks and sure enough there dye on the drain hose I had attached to the little firewall drain fitting. The evaporator had to come out. I had a mobile ac guy reccomended by a fellow employee come out to my house and change it out. He said the Dodge evaporators were mostly junk through the end of the 90's. So hopefully the aftermarket one he put in will last longer than 94k miles.

I used Super Seal last August and it is still blowing cold! Cost about $20. Checker and CarQuest carry them. At the time I put it in, my system would only blow real cold for about 2 days and then slowly get warmer. After about 7 days... . no A/C. I was looking at a $600 repair job. Real happy with Super Seal.

Thanks for the "info" Koa Man, and Cooker as well, for calling it to his attention. I will try to find some stopleak as soon as I can. I'll give it a try and see what happens. A friend said he would do the install over a weekend for about $250. if I would get the coil. I think I can get one for about $110. from the stealer-dealer.

Thanks again, RCrawford.
